StorieTree Professional Education, LLC is committed to conducting all activities in strict conformance with the American Psychological Association’s Ethical Principles of Psychologists. StorieTree Professional Education, LLC will comply with all legal and ethical responsibilities to be non-discriminatory in promotional activities, program content, and in the treatment of program participants. The monitoring and assessment of compliance with these standards will be the responsibility of Dr. Rachel Anne Kieran.
While StorieTree Professional Education, LLC tries to ensure fair treatment for all participants, there may be occasional issues which require intervention and/or action by someone in the organization. The procedure to handle such issues is outlined here as a guide for handling such grievances.
In alignment with APA Ethical Principles and StorieTree Professional Education’s values of collegiality, accountability, and community care, participants are encouraged—when appropriate and safe—to address moments of discomfort, misunderstanding, or professional disagreement directly and respectfully with one another during sessions.
Because StorieTree’s programming is designed for licensed psychologists and advanced professionals, we view respectful dialogue, curiosity, and repair as part of ethical professional practice and lifelong learning. Many concerns related to language, perspective, or interpretation can be resolved through thoughtful conversation and clarification in real time.
Participants may choose to:
Ask clarifying questions,
Name impact respectfully,
Request a pause or reframing, or
Engage in brief, professional dialogue with the involved party.
This approach is encouraged but not required. Participants are never expected to engage directly if doing so feels unsafe, overwhelming, or inappropriate given the nature of the concern.
Direct communication is not expected in situations involving:
Harassment, discrimination, or bias;
Threats to physical or psychological safety;
Significant power differentials;
Repeated boundary violations; or
Situations where prior attempts at direct resolution have not been successful.
In these cases, participants are encouraged to contact the Program Administrator or StorieTree staff promptly so that concerns can be addressed appropriately and without undue burden on the affected individual.
If a concern cannot be resolved through direct, respectful communication—or if direct communication is not appropriate—the formal grievance process outlined below remains fully available. StorieTree Professional Education is committed to responding to concerns in a timely, fair, and ethically grounded manner, regardless of whether informal resolution was attempted.
Any person with a grievance should try to informally resolve their grievance by contacting StorieTree in writing or verbally with their issue concerning the training, its delivery, the evaluation method, or the technologies used. If the grievance concerns a speaker, the content presented, or the style of presentation, the grievance will be placed in a written form and passed on to the presenter by StorieTree.
If the aggrieved person is not satisfied with the results of this informal approach, the aggrieved person shall put their grievance in writing to StorieTree. StorieTree’s Program Director will then consult with the Program Administrator to determine fair methods of resolving the grievance.
The Program Administrator will mediate and be the final on-site arbitrator for grievances raised during any course/workshop.
If the grievance concerns a workshop offering, its content, level of presentation, or the facilities in which the workshop was offered, the Program Administrator will mediate and will be the final arbitrator. If the participant requests action, the Program Administrator will:
attempt to move the participant to another scheduled workshop or
provide a credit for a future workshop or
provide a partial or full refund of the workshop fee.(Requires signed written statement by the aggrieved.)
If the aggrieved person is not satisfied with proposed solutions, the aggrieved person shall put their grievance in writing to StorieTree. StorieTree’s Program Director will then consult with the Program Administrator to determine fair methods of resolving the grievance.
IF the aggrieved person remains unsatisfied, they will be encouraged to put their grievance in writing and to contact the appropriate certifying body. The training provider will abide by any decisions regarding resolution of the grievance made by such a body.
